EndoftheLine are trying to raise awareness after the mural created for the Darksiders 2 was painted over by Hackney Council. Though we are respectful of the fact that residents do not want wanton vandalism we feel that the council need to consider work done with permission, and also the nature of the artwork as well as the area. It has been a constant struggle to try and get anyone to own up to the responsibility of what is happening which seems to be repeatedly blamed on a small fraction of residents in the area. What is also frustrating is that the council seem to be contradicting their policies on graffiti which states “Hackney Council have no authority to immediately remove graffiti from buildings that we do not own or manage.’ (See Policy here) We have no record of the council speaking to the person(s) that gave us the permission to paint this wall. However, along with business owners, local residents have helped us start a campaign to support and recreate those destroyed artworks at the expense of the council, though it doesn’t lighten our spirits about the lost time and effort that was spent, it is great to know that we have this support. Unfortunately EndoftheLine are not the only ones to be affected by this unlawful takedown; Nychos & Vibes also had their monumental work taken down at The Foundry in Old Street. We would love to have everyones support to back us, if you would like to have your say about the situation please sign our petition here. Many thanks to all that have signed this already!
